Class Project

Short Story Covers

Duration: Three Weeks

Problem:

Many short story collections lack a cohesive visual identity, making it difficult for readers to recognize connections between individual stories or the overarching themes of the collection. Inconsistent or unrelated cover designs can weaken the overall impact of the series and reduce its ability to attract and engage readers. There is a need for a unified design system that visually ties each story together while still highlighting their unique narratives and moods.

Lead Designer

Background:

Book cover design shapes a reader’s first impression and conveys the tone and themes of a story. This project explores a cohesive series of three short story covers and a complementary movie poster that share a unified visual language. Through consistent typography, color, and imagery, the designs reflect the stories’ shared atmosphere and emotional depth while maintaining each piece’s individuality.

Solution:

The final designs use a consistent visual system that combines color, typography, and illustration to create a unified identity across the three covers and movie poster. Each piece stands alone yet connects through shared visual cues that capture the mood, themes, and tone of the short stories.

Iterations

Movie Poster

Expanding the story universe, the movie poster brings the book to life on a larger scale while keeping the same visual language as the book covers.
